Tangerines

Tangerines

In Season: Typically available in the winter months Tangerine is a common name for a variety of Mandarin orange, native to Southeast Asia. Tangerines resemble oranges, but are smaller and have a thinner rind. They take their name from Tangier, Morocco, where the fruit was first imported from China. Popular varieties are the Dancy and Clementine, as well as the Satsuma, which is typically used for canned mandarin oranges. Tangelos are a tangerine hybrid, created by crossing a tangerine with a grapefruit. Tangelos are recognizable by their bell shape, reddish-orange color, and absence of seeds.
