Lemons

Lemons

In Season: Lemon trees blossom throughout the year Lemons were wildly popular during the Gold Rush of 1849. High in Vitamin C and an excellent cure and preventative for scurvy, miners paid exorbitant sums for a single lemon. As a result of such high demand, hundreds of lemon trees were planted that we still enjoy today. Did you know that there are actually three types of lemons? Most familiar are acidic varieties that you encounter at the supermarket. But there are also rough lemons, which are mostly used to propagate other citrus fruits, and sweet lemons, which have very little acidity and are often used in making juices and sauces.
